
Dr. Campbell is a Biomedical Engineer, Biomedical Scientist and Materials Scientist, specializing in tissue-mimicking constructs, biomaterials manufacturing, implants (hip, heart valve, intervertebral disc) and additive manufacturing (3D printing). He received his B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, M.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (Biomedical Engineering) both from the University of Waterloo, and Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics (Faculty of Medicine) from Western University. He is a Professional Engineer (PEng) in the Province of Ontario and is also a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE).
He retired as a Senior Research Officer with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) where he conducted new research for soft synthetic tissues and additive manufacturing. Previously, he held management positions at the London Health Sciences Centre/University Hospital (Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Services, and Technology Development), Director of Production, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Matters for Life Imaging Systems; General Manger/Vice President for QUIVSOL International, President/Director MedEng Inc. He holds an Adjunct Research Professor appointment in Medical Biophysics at Western University. His recognitions include "Outstanding Canadian Biomedical Engineer" by the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society and he was a member of the Neurotouch team that won a Public Service Award of Excellence from Science and Technology Canada. He has developed many medical device prototypes and been Principal Investigator or Co-investigator for more than 45 research grants and research contracts totalling more than $3.4 million. He holds 9 patents, has 162 publications, as well as more than 80 presentations at professional seminars, workshops and symposia.
